Balloon Fiesta! New Mexico
Mary always takes and posts pictures of the Balloon Fiesta every year on her Facebook or Website, and so she sent me a postcard of the Balloon Fiesta. This takes place in Albuquerque every year in early October. The reason why this event is always successful are because of the temperatures and the "box" which is a set of predictable wind patterns that can be exploited to navigate the balloons.

I received this postcard via postcrossing of the Sky Tower in Auckland, New Zealand. While looking for information on the Sky Tower, I came across this info:
The upper portion of the tower contains two restaurants and a cafe, including a revolving restaurant which is located 190m from the ground, turning 360 degrees once every hour. There is also a brasserie style buffet located one floor above the main observatory level. It has three observation decks at different heights, each providing 360 degree views of the city. The main observation level at 186m has 38mm thick glass sections of flooring giving a view straight to the ground. The top observation deck labeled 'Skydeck' sits just below the main antenna at 220m and gives views of up to 82 km in the distance.
Another really cool feature about the Sky Tower is the different illuminations it has to promote different causes.
I love the stamps that were posted on this card. The All Blacks is the name of New Zealand's Rugby team. New Zealand is currently hosting the Rugby World Cup, and Maureen mentions that everyone is having a blast. I bet!

Sebatu
A scene of the public baths in Sebatu, Indonesia
This temple was built in homage to the God of preserver (Wisnu), who rules over water, and here one finds a number of natural spring and waterspouts. The Balinese believe that water is one of the forces of life. The etymology of Gunung Kawi means a fabricated mountain. It lies west of Sebatu village, which is elovated and its name means slipping on a stone.

Bear Cave, Romania
Cori sent me this postcard from Romania of Bear Cave.
The cave was discovered in 1975, by "Speodava", an amateur speleologist group, and is considered to be an interesting site-seeing location.
The cave was named as it was found to contain numerous complete skeletons of extinct Cave Bears, a species of large animal which disappeared more than 15,000 years ago. It is suggested that a rock slide closed the entrance to the cave whilst 140 of these animals were still inside; deprived of food, the bears resorted to killing each other until none remained. Bear fossils were found in many parts of the cave, most sporting the marks of bear teeth.

The real stand out of this postcard are of course, the Stroopwafel. SO GOOD.
A stroopwafel is a waffle made from two thin layers of baked batter with a caramel-like syrup filling in the middle. They were first made in Gouda in the Netherlands, in 1784. Large versions are sold in the streets as a snack.
The stiff batter for the waffles is made from flour, butter, brown sugar, yeast, milk, and eggs. Medium sized balls of batter are put on the. After the waffle has been baked, and while it's still warm, it's cut into halves. The warm filling, made from syrup, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon, is spread between the waffle halves, gluing them together.

The town of Óbidos, Portugal.
Óbidos remains a well-preserved example of medieval architecture; its streets, squares, walls and its castle are a popular tourist destination.
Each July Óbidos castle hosts a traditional Medieval Market. For two weeks the castle and the surrounding town recreate the spirit of medieval Europe.
The stamp is a hologram, it's really neat :)

Woohoo! I've received a ton of postcards lately, and I've just now had the time to upload them. I'm going to start with the postcards I've received via Postcrossing :)
Colin was kind enough to send me two postcards from Oklahoma!
This is a postcard of Oklahoma's State Tree, The Eastern Redbud. Often referred to as a "native tree with a touch of class", the Eastern Redbud flourishes in neighborhoods as well as growing wild in wooded areas. In early spring, with its spreading branches covered in clusters of purplish pink blossoms, the Eastern Redbud is a breath of fresh air after a long winter.
